Grandma Jean's Danish Pastry
A lot of work, but extremely yummy!
Mix together
1 pkg dry active yeast
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
Scald two cups milk, cool down until just warm, mix with above ingredients
Add
6 cups flour
Mix well, let rise. Punch down, divide in four pieces, let rise again.
Roll out each piece separately, one at a time. Roll out in long strips, as thin as possible, coat with butter, fold over in thirds, roll opposite direction, coat with butter, repeat. Roll out a total of three times.
Filling:
Cream together
1/4 cup butter
1 box dark brown sugar
Add jam, nuts, dates, etc.
Roll out dough in long strip. Put filling down the middle. Fold edges over
each other, pinch to seal. Slash top.
Bake 375° 12-15 min. Let cool on sheet.
